Data collection tools

We shared storyboards with our participants to stimulate discussions and introduce usability testing to people who had not previously taken part in usability studies. You could use our drawings or develop your own.

The user researcher perspective

In this drawing we report our initial findings from interviews with user researchers. We used this drawing to stimulate further debate at roundtable discussions.

The participant usability journey

In this drawing we report our initial findings from an interview study with 17 participants who identify as having a disability and or identify as LGBTQ+. We used this drawing to stimulate further debate at roundtable discussions.

What does usability testing look like for a participant?

In this storyboard we describe what usability testing could look like for a participant to stimulate a conversation about people's preferences for taking part in studies. The storyboard shows examples of what might happen. For example, in "1. Be invited to a usability study", we show a participant scanning a QR code. People may be familiar with and prefer other ways of being invited to a study.  This is what we wanted to find out for this and each of the drawings.
